Q1. What is Browser-Safe Color Palette / Web-Safe Colors?

An. Here are the Browser-Safe Color (http://www.elizabethcastro.com/html4_4e/examples/appendices/colorcharthex.html)

Many people surf the net with their browsers set to read only 256 colors. If you specify a color that is not one of these “Browser Safe” colors, then their browser will display either the closest color, or a dithered (spotty) color.

It is colors that Work Well in Most Browsers. If you use Browser-Safe Color Palette/ Web-Safe Colors, your Web page will look the same on monitors that can display 256 colors or more, on both Macintosh and PC computers.

Q2. Is it still relevant in today’s context? Why?

An. Yes.

Most computers today use graphics cards that render in 24 or 32 bit color. That equates to 16,777,216 colors. They are listed here, not because they are the only colors you should use, but because every visual design tool or image creating / editing program on the market today is going to have them as one of their color palettes. With today’s high color monitors and powerful graphics cards, the use of Browser Safe Colors isn’t nearly as important.  But if you have a simple graphic (less than 256 colors), then sticking with Browser Safe Colors is a good idea because you know for sure that it will look the same to everyone who views it on the Web.

Q3. What are the common fonts  face found on PC & Mac?

An. (help from http://www.lesto.com/andrewn/d023.html “web safe fonts”)

Arial, Helvetica, Geneva, Swiss, SunSans-Regular. These are rather common fonts that are found on most computers, both PC and Mac.

And here list all web save fonts: http://www.speaking-in-styles.com/web-typography/Web-Safe-Fonts/

The specified typeface will be used only if it is found on the user’s machine. It is common to provide a list of fonts for the face attribute, from specific to more generic, as shown here:

<font face=”Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif”>

If the browser can’t find Verdana, it will use the more widely available Helvetica; and if it can’t find Helvetica, it will use some other sans-serif font can’t be found, at least the general style will be matched. That default font could be anything, but by listing the fonts in the HTML, you have a better chance of the computer using a font of your choosing.

Q4. What is page loading time and how it influence your design?

An. The time that user waiting the web page show on the browser. ( help from http://www.die.net/musings/page_load_time/) Each of your keywords will receive a load time grade based on the average load time of the landing pages in the ad group and of any landing pages in the rest of the account with the same domain. If multiple ad groups have landing pages with the same domain, therefore, the keywords in all these ad groups will have identical load time grades. Two things to note: * When determining load time grade, the AdWords system follows destination URLs at both the ad and keyword level and evaluates the final landing page. * If your ad group contains landing pages with different domains, the keywords’ load time grades will be based on the domain with the slowest load time. All the keywords in an ad group will always have the same load time grade. We evaluate your load time relative to the average in your server’s geographic region. If your website is hosted on a server in India, for example, your landing page load time will be compared to the average load time in that region of India. This is true even if your website is intended for an audience in the United States. (http://adwords.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=87144)

Nielsen acknowledges that the days of Web pages routinely loading in under a second lie far in the future, but in the meantime he suggests that a realistic goal is “to get pages to users in no more than ten seconds, since that’s the limit of people’s ability to keep their attention focused while waiting.” (http://pages.towson.edu/lieb/editing/loading.html)

Users value ads that bring them to the information they want as efficiently as possible. A high-quality landing page should have a fast load time as well as feature unique, relevant content. Fast load times benefit advertisers as well, since users are less likely to abandon a site that loads quickly.

Q5. http://www.web-strategist.com/blog/2007/03/19/web-design-and-worflow-process-comparison/

Read about Web Design Process article above and write what you think about it (at least 150 words).

An. It seems that all of the listed web design processes are steps or sub-steps in some variation of a standard waterfall software methodology.

I think concept and development is very important. We need to know what we are doing and what the website needs to do. And to be more thankful, thinking about what the website’s visitors want. All of these, we need to understand before we start, or redo when we realize. It is a great idea to have a system in place. This will save you time and money. Web design process play a great positive role in web designer professional life if it is simple and organized.

After planning, we should start to design. And base on it, we can easier to design a good website. The most important point at this stage of web design process is to make good first impression. You need to understand the client general needs and ensure them that you’re able to provide them with quality web design and solution for their business. The base for client decision should be your testimonials, portfolio and references. Never do any serious web design work before initial payment. By any means it can’t help you to persuade potential client but you can lose your time and work for free. I can’t say that I got the ideal web design process but its efficiency is proved by trial-and-error method.
